When we were designing the color palette for our lightest, most airy sock collection, we knew exactly where we needed to look for inspiration: the western edge of Jeju Island. Here, a short flight away from the bustling heartbeat of Seoul, lies a sanctuary of calm known as Hyeopjae Beach.
It is widely considered one of the most breathtaking coastlines in South Korea, and it served as the sole muse for The Hyeopjae Tide Trio. We chose three specific shades to capture this exact landscape: Jeju Breeze mirrors the crisp, salt-kissed air and pristine shores; Mint Sky reflects the translucent, sunlit shallows; and Powder Blue echoes the endless, restorative calm of an island morning.
But to truly understand this collection, you have to look beyond the colors and experience the magic of the place itself.
A Landscape of Contrasts
Hyeopjae is a masterpiece of natural textures. When you first step onto the beach, the sand doesn’t just feel soft; it has a unique, bright white luminosity. This is because the pristine sand is naturally mixed with millions of finely crushed seashells. It creates a smooth, powdery canvas that meets striking, pitch-black basalt rocks. These dark volcanic stones—scattered along the shoreline—are a beautiful, rugged reminder of Jeju’s fiery origins, providing a grounding contrast to the incredibly clear, emerald-mint waters that gently lap against them.
The Island That Flew
Perhaps the most captivating feature of Hyeopjae isn't actually on the beach at all. When you look out into the ocean, the horizon is anchored by a perfectly shaped, miniature volcanic island called Biyangdo.
According to local Jeju legend, Biyangdo wasn't always there. The name literally translates to "the island that flew over". The myth says that over a thousand years ago, a mountain detached itself from China, flew across the ocean, and gently settled into the waters just off the coast of Hyeopjae. Whether you believe the ancient folklore or the geological history of ancient volcanic eruptions, Biyangdo gives Hyeopjae a picturesque focal point—a quiet, enduring guardian watching over the tides.

What ultimately draws people to Hyeopjae—and what we wanted to capture in our socks—is the feeling of time slowing down. Because the waters here are famously shallow and the slope of the ocean floor is gentle, the waves don’t crash; they whisper.
Walking barefoot along this beach as the tide pulls back, feeling the cool water and the shell-dusted sand, is a profoundly restorative experience. It clears the mind. It is a place where you can exhale deeply, letting the rhythmic, peaceful energy of the coast wash over you.
